Ludei and Nickelodeon to use HTML5 For Nick App on Android

Some apps have deserved praise and a name. Others have won a hackathon but very few have won an Emmy. But a games is a different kind of app! Enter Ludei, the developer and amusement giant Nickelodeon: The growing schism between operation systems made it necessary to work on re-writing their coding handbook and make it as platform independent as possible. Serious games can be played on the road on your mobile and when you get home you just connect your prone to the TV monitor. Smart-phones, smartTV and smart codebooks.

In order to keep up to date it has to be tuned to different tunes of Android and iOS but also to be able to withstand a growing competition. Which means a redo, coded in html5 and Ludei's own CocoonJS technology .

HTML5 in gaming, to an outsider, has been a bit slowing down. To speed up that process Ludei introduced their CocoonJS technology for HTML5 gaming to Nickelodeon as another way to look at their App for Android. The "android stores" are filled to the brim with games and if you can add games that work on all tastes of Android? "Ladies and gentlemen: We have a winner!"

In the meantime, over 600 games and counting have now been published with the technology of CocoonJS. Andrey Kovalishin, of “Hamster Hunter famed" was reported to state “...a no-brainer to dip your toes into HTML5 development.”  Which is a bold statement if you recall Mark Zuckerberg (in August 2012) naming HTML5 development as Facebook  “biggest mistake.” As an humble editor and consult I'm not going to rebuke him but: Good plans need good execution....

I guess they agreed with me because less than  two years later, Facebook is said to be drawing up plans for HTML5 in their future. Which makes sense as it's hard to miss HTML5s' many advantages in the smartphone world, a world Facebook urgently needs to master. Multi-platform development to be based on a single source code would enable  publishing an app or game in most of the major and minor app stores. Why? Because you will be able to generate tailored code for both mainstream and smaller platforms. For many years champions lauded HTML5 to become the ultimate development tool for this era and, as both are getting further in time, it seems the champions were right. If you are a laureated coder you have probably worked with it, or at least had some peer reports on the impacts it has on the efficiency and speed of coding games. Low costs have always been a basis for economic viability.

With the likes of Nickelodeon jumping on the bandwagon, and some getting back, it shows that the days of HTML5 are far from gone. It's here to stay probably way into the 2020's. Many developers will focus on optimizing their game and app and the less time they need to customize their app to all kinds of OS versions they'd rather work on a better user experience. How far HTML5 will get in the end is a matter of history to be but 2014 seems to become the year of HTML5 bouncing back into the world of game development.

We met up with Ludei at the HTML5 Developer Conference in San Francisco and got them on Video introducing their technology and the services it offers to developers:
