Tizen Samsung Gear 2 Unveiled at Unpacked 5 - Tizen Experts

Feb 26, 2014

As Expected, Samsung Unveiled their next Smartwatch offering, the Samsung Gear 2 at Mobile World Congress #MWC14, which unknown to many is actually Tizen based. This seems to address some of the design issues or failings that the first Samsung Gear Smartwatch suffered from.

The new design is now slicker and less chunky. Battery life is now expected to be in the 2-3 days region rather than the disappointing 25 hours of its previous sibling. Also a nice welcome is the IP67 certification for water and dust resistance, which lets it compete outdoors with the likes of the Pebble Smartwatch. Another good move is the addition of an IR blaster that utilises the Watch-On application. Yes Samsung, we like!

The video below is a quick flick through the User Interface with a full review coming soon.

  • 1.63-inch touchscreen
  • 1GHz dual-core processor, increased from 800Mhz
  • 4GB internal storage
  • 512MB of RAM
  • Infrared
  • S Voice
  • A heart rate sensor
  • Resistance to water and Dust IP67 certification
  • 2MP AF camera with 720p video capture on the higher model
  • 300mAh battery (smaller than the previous model)
