Samsung registers another trademark - Samsung Gear Store

It looks like Samsung is on a roll with regards to registering trademarks. We recently reported on the Gear VR trademark, and now they have applied for the trademark “Gear Store” at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. From the trademark’s description, Gear Store is a “computer application software for wearable computer peripherals, wearable computers, wearable mobile phones, smartphones, mobile phones.”

Could this be a separate application store just for Gear Smart wearable devices? Samsung are due to release their Android wear device this year, so if this also goes under the Gear banner, does that mean you have one Gear Store for both Android and Tizen devices? We wait to see what will happens.

  1. I'm guessing they will un-bundle the "Samsung Apps" nested inside the Gear Manager, and calling that Samsung Gear Store. Just like Google Play. So you'll have a website for it, and a smartphone app for it (probably for Android and Tizen).

You'll probably want it standalone on-device for the Gear Solo too. You would just set up your Samsung Account directly on the watch. Same as on PlayStation or XBOX. Bit of a pain to do the setup for the first time with only a virtual keyboard, but then it is done. Will be even more annoying on a watch, so maybe they will a phone, PC or Mac for that initial setup? But that just annoys customers (like you had to had to use iTunes for lots of setup on iPhone for a few years) and they should just NOT do that ever.

It should be ... Buy a Gear Solo. That is your only "computer", but that is just fine. You should even be able to do the Samsung account setup purely on the watch. And then even without a credit card setup, you can connect to the Store and download free apps.

    1. I hope so too! The current store for the Gear 2 needs a major overhaul. The 140 limit character for reviews makes no sense at all just as an example of how bad the store currently is, minimal features and basic/amateur at best. Wasn't expecting a whole lot of apps but there are new apps weekly which is a good sign at least.

I expect much better quality from Samsung...
