The Egg is a Tizen based personal web server that gives you the ability to "Store, Share and Secure Personal Content Without Using Cloud Services". As we have seen in recent times, relying on web services can mean in many cases in them ending up in owning your personal uploaded content, your photographs, your videos, meaning there are no longer yours. Sad, but true.
The Egg changes this by making it possible for you to store your Information on a device that you have full control over and you can choose what and when you share, your media that stays yours.
“Over the past two years, our team has dedicated its work to meet these needs and to overcome the limitations of cloud-based services, thus inventing a ground-breaking design, with innovative engineering and an easy to use interface called The Egg!” stated Barry Solomon, co-founder of Eggcyte. “We believe the Egg is a disruptive technology that will make the web personal by putting the consumer in complete control of who sees their digital content and exactly where it resides.”
You have a personal website where you can share your videos, photos and other private content without being tracked or scanned by the big cloud services, thus preserving your privacy, in a device that can fit in your pocket.
"The Intel® Atom™ processor offers secure, high-performance options with minimal power consumption to connect devices," said Doug Davis, vice president and general manager of the Internet of Things Group at Intel. "The Egg is an example of what can be built using Intel architecture to solve consumer technology problems such as secure media storage.”
The Egg runs Tizen that is optimised for a HTML5 architecture, so ANY HTML5 application will run well on it, as well as many Open Source components. It offers great power management so you can use it for longer on the move, offering battery power of between 10-12 hours off a single charge. Above all of this, it is a Tizen Linux device so you will be able to SDB right into the Egg, no how cool is that?
This is an ideal platform for your Native / HTML5 client-server apps. As Developers, what apps do you want to create for the Egg? This is potentially your Tizen Server, so its down to your imagination and developer creativity to what can be achieved.
The project launched yesterday on Kickstarter and it will run for the next 45 days. The Egg will be Available in August 2015, with a starting price of only $99 for early-bird pricing.
“During trials we found The Egg to be tremendously versatile. Users took their Eggs with them on vacation or to events to make sure they always had space available on their devices when they needed it the most. They shared photos and videos moved to The Egg from their cameras and phones directly with family back home using The Egg’s personal website.
