The Evolution kit series from Samsung had long been a life saver for its older HDTVs and helped them stay relevant for a few more years. For those unaware, Samsung's Evolution kit is a standalone device that had the processing power and other smart features of the more recent TVs and would connect to the older TVs to bring them to current gen standards giving them capabilities to play 4K content, connect to WiFi, MHL connectivity, etc.

This year however won't see a new iteration of the Evolution kit, stated Michael Zoeller, Vice President and Head of Visual Display at Samsung Electronics Europe. Samsung will instead be pushing out an OTA to its 2015 Tizen based Evolution kit giving it some of features that can be found on its 2016's range of TVs. Although not much details were given on what sort of features or services will make way into this ota, Zoeller confirmed that an official announcement will soon be out explaining about it.

Last week at CES in Las Vegas, Samsung unveiled an array of products along with an upgrade to its SUHD TV in the form of a bezel less curved Quantum dots SUHD TV which now supports HDR. Samsung stated that its Tizen based TVs are now smarter than ever and can even recognize the devices connected to it like a console, set top box, home theatre system, etc and allow the user to control them all, right from the Smart Remote Control.

Samsung also announced that all its 2016 SUHD TVs will feature the IOT hub technology developed by Samsung with smartthings. This will essentially allow the SUHD TVs to connect to over 200 smartthings devices like doorbells, lamps, oven, etc. This might probably make its way into the aforementioned OTA update for the 2015 SUHD Evolution kits.

  1. Hi, would I take any significant benefit of buying the SEK3500U One Connect Evolution Kit? My current SmartTV set is the Samsung UA65HU7200WPXD?

  2. When will we see this update? I have a UN65JS8500 and we are now in June 2916 without a peep from Samsung???

    1. I agree, this article was written 6 months ago, where's the update? Also, can you maybe help me understand if this means we're getting the newer tizen OS I am seeing on 2016 models?

  3. Can someone please clarify what this means. I bought a JS9000 and recently saw a 2016 model with an entirely new Tizen UI. Is the UI coming to my 2015 model??

          1. They better get me an ice cold Gatorade and pack of smokes if they plan on fucking me like this.

          2. Alright, I just got off the phone with Samsung. I talked to a girl that has a 2015 model and said that she is very much looking forward to the update and it certainly is coming to 2015 models. She said in her system she can confirm that 2015 models will have the UI update to be in line with 2016 models, however they don't have a date for it yet as they are still working on it.

  4. Like a lot of websites that post this sort of article, the writer never comes back to answer questions. I have the 55JS9000 & Samsung phone support said today, that the 2015 models will not be getting the 2016 Tizen software because the 2016 2nd generation Tizen software, is not compatible with the 1st generation. "different platforms' is what I was told. Humbug!

    1. I called Samsung twice and neither rep knew what I was even talking about! I hope what you're saying is just a misinformed rep as they really know nothing about these types of things. The hardware is there to support the UI.

Ive got to agree with you on your post though, everyone's posting the same article based on the 30 second video posted. Everything written in these articles is speculation. What he said is that some features are coming to 2015 models. Who knows if that's something very small or the entire UI. All I want is a new UI for my 65JS9000 which I spent 3500 for.

    2. Because, these articles are written by hacks solely for clicks. These are not "real" reporters nor writers.

  5. I called Samsung twice and neither rep knew what I was even talking about! I hope what you're saying is just a misinformed rep as they really know nothing about these types of things. The hardware is there to support the UI.

  6. Typical, lying scumbag corporation. I guess my less than year old $2,000 UN65JS8500 has been deemed obsolete to coerce me into buying a 2016?

    1. $3,800 JS9000 owner here. I'm still waiting to see WHEN this update is coming. This is the only website that has this article. "Tizen Experts" should be responsible journalists and follow up with the information they have posted regarding this.

  7. Samsung has really bad customer support, when I bought my 2015 Samsung JU7090 they promise me also that I will get the new Tizen when its out. Its completely stupid on the new Tizen are some new Apps like the new DS Video and I still have to use the old one just because Samung is not able to bring the new software also to "older" models. Also with software updates you even don't know what they change ore improve...
