Compare Samsung Z1, Z2, and Z3 Tizen Smartphones

Lets do a quick history lesson: The first Tizen Smartphone was the Samsung Z1, then came the Z3, and yesterday was the turn of the 4G touting Z2 to take centre stage. On the whole the Z2 is very similar to the Z1 and can be thought of a Z1 2016 edition with the inclusion of 4G cellular connectivity and updated software with user requested features.

Samsung Z2: Has a 4-inch WVGA screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, Powered by a 1.5GHz Quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory, microSD capability (upto 128GB), dual SIM support, 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, VGA front camera, and a 1500mAh long-lasting battery. Direct comparison with the Z1 shows that the obvious difference which is the main camera which is a 5MP, a welcome upgrade over the previous 3MP. Other changes are more memory, 768MB compared to 1GB, and 8GB storage opposed to 4GB. Altogether this is a an attractive device especially when its priced at Rs 4,590 for a 4G device with Reliance Jio preview offer bundled in.

Samsung Z3: Was announced in October 2015. Has a 5-inch 1280 x 720 pixel HD Super AMOLED display, Powered by a 1.3Ghz Quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory, microSD capability (upto 128GB), 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 5MP front camera, and a 2600mAh battery. The device was launched with an older version of Tizen v2.4.0 (opposed to and does not have some of the newest features of the Z2 and it is hoped that Samsung will update the Z3 sooner than later.

Samsung Z1: Samsung announced the Z1, which would support the Tizen, in January 2015 and it was the first move to start Samsung's own Tizen smartphone ecosystem. Android has been a good revenue cow for the Korean hardware manufacturer, but they could have far greater returns by utilising their own Operating System. The 4-inch display has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, dual core processor, 768MB RAM, 4GB On-board storage, 3MP main camera, and was launched with Tizen 2.4. The budget smartphone was later updated to version 2.4 of the Tizen OS.

  1. I am a big tizen fan. I am going to by the Z2 in Europe. The only real drawback is the lack of autofocus. I'd buy the Z3 but 5" displays are way too large for me - smaller phone is a big plus. I understand the need of 5" and larger devices but I don't know why all 4" devices are so crappy, with the only exception of iPhone 5.
