Today, Samsung has announced that it's currently updating the Gear S2 software / firmware to the second release of its value pack update. The first update was released in July of this year. S2 owners will now be able to further customise their smartwatches and enjoy additional convenience features. The update is live in major markets as of today and will be rolled out worldwide in the next few weeks, keep following Team Tizen for all the news.
Gear S3's watches faces are now downloadable, via the Galaxy Apps Store, as well as the Reminders and Altimeter / Barometer App, the later being a great tool for tracking outdoor activities and measuring air pressure.
A new Handwriting Mode has been introduced that lets you write in English, Korean or Chinese, superimposed directly on the screen without the need of waiting for the previous character to be translated before you can move on. If you want to be hands-free, then the new voice input option lets you send dictated texts and voice recordings.
Samsung's S-Health app also gets the update treatment with the ability to recognise more activities, including running, walking, cycling, rowing-machine sessions as well as “Other Workouts” that could cover other high-intensity activities. You can also count the number of reps you've done in the gym for squats, lunges, crunches and star jumps. We also get the Auto-pause function that was recently Introduced to the Gear Fit2, which as the name implies automatically pauses the tracking feature if a stop is detected.
