As expected, Samsung unveiled the Gear S3 smartwatch for the Indian market at an event yesterday in New Delhi. The company launched both Classic and the Frontier variants of the Gear S3 in the country and announced that the smartwatches would be going on sale from 18th of January. The smartwatches are currently listed for pre-order on Samsung's own online store carrying a price tag of Rs. 28,500.
This puts the Gear S3 in direct competition with the Apple Watch 2 which is currently being sold in India for a hefty Rs. 34,000 price tag now that Samsung have made the Gear S3 (also Gear S2 and Gear Fit 2) compatible with iPhones (Here's how to get started). It is also unclear whether the Gear S3 Frontier launched in India is the LTE variant or the regular WiFi one, we will update our readers about that very soon.
The Gear S3 Frontier boasts of a sporty and rugged look while the Gear S3 Classic is more suited for the corporate world thanks to its sleek 'timeless' design. The Gear S3 have room for customization as both the straps on both the smartwatches can be replaced with any 22mm watch band. Both the Tizen based smartwatches have the unique rotating Bezel which was first introduced in the Gear S2. The Gear S3 smartwatches feature an Always-On display so you can always see the time on them like a regular watch. The smartwatches are also IP68 certified providing them water and dust resistance.
Both the smartwatches feature a 1.3” Circular Super AMOLED display with a 360 x 360, 278ppi along with Corning Gorilla Glass SR+ protection. The smartwatches are embedded with a dual core exynos processor along with 4GB of internal storage and 768 MB of RAM. The smartwatches have an array of sensors embedded in them like GPS, Barometer, accelerometer, HRM, gyro, etc to track fitness activities and monitor weather. The smartwatches are powered by a 380 mah battery which Samsung claims can keep it running for 4 days.
