Samsung often receives a lot of criticism for its mid-range and low-end smartphones, with some critics claiming that the Korean giant's more budget-friendly devices are simply not functional enough and priced too highly for their respective segments. The same has been said about Samsung's smartwatches, with critics of Samsung's square form factor in early watches such as the Galaxy Gear, Gear 2, and Gear S finding them problematic to recommend to consumers. And yet, consumers have bought them anyway, and many are still buying the 2014 Gear S and 2014 Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. Turns out that critics aren't always right.

And the same can be said for Samsung's mid-range and low-end smartphones: they're selling, even if critics don't recommend them.

GSM Arena conducted a top 10 trending smartphones list for the first week of 2017, and has discovered not one, not two, not three, not four, but five Samsung smartphones in its top 10 list. First on the list of 10 trending smartphones is the Galaxy J7 Prime, followed by the Galaxy J7 (2016) as the runner-up in second place. The Galaxy J5 (2016) comes in eighth, followed by the Galaxy S7 edge in ninth and the Tizen-powered Z2 in tenth place. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, previously second, has fallen to third place. The Vivo V5 came in fourth, Xiaomi Redmi 3S fifth, having exchanged places in previous versions. Xiaomi's third smartphone on the list, the Redmi Note 4, comes in sixth, with Oppo sliding one phone in at seventh place - the Oppo F1s.

We're glad to see the Z2 returned to the trending category, as it runs Samsung's own Tizen OS that is known for superior battery life. Samsung just updated the Z2 to BPK3 and then BPL2 last month. The Z2 features a 4-inch display with a quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, expandable storage up to an additional 128GB via microSD, a 5MP back camera, and a 1,500mAh battery along with Samsung's trademark Ultra Power Saving Mode (UPSM). The Samsung Z2 is Samsung's first 4G-connected, Tizen-powered smartphone.
