SK Telecom, Korea’s largest telecommunications company that has more than 29 million mobile subscribers, has announced that it has exclusively launched Samsung Electronics’ Gear S3 Classic LTE smartwatch on January 24. The Tizen-based wearable tech will be priced at 451,000 won (US$387), which includes all surtax but excludes the price of the USIM chip.
The company has worked closely with Samsung on three models of classic watch faces in order to 'realize the true design of classic watches.' A unique aspect to these watch faces will be a ticking sound of second hand and night lighting mode. Apparently, you will only be able to download these special watchfaces from the Galaxy Apps Store if you're paired to a Gear S3 Classic LTE.
SK Telecom is also offering a “Gear Happiness Compensation Program,” which is a trade-in program that offers 50,000 won (US$43) discount to customers that purchase the Gear S3 Classic LTE smartwatch after returning their old Gear S device. This offer will run until March 31 2017. The Gear S3 Classic LTE model is exclusive to SK Telecom at the moment, but we do not know how long that will be for.
