Samsung joined the train of chipset makers with 10nm chips with the launch of the Exynos 8895 chip earlier this year. The versatile Korean company is now reportedly working on two processors which would be built on the 10nm FinFEt manufacturing process. Information making the rounds on the internet posits that the processors are the Exynos 7885 and Exynos 9610 processors which would be used on smartphones and tablets.
According to the information, the Exynos 7885 chip's architecture will be made up of two ARM Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.1GHz and four ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores in an octa-core arrangement. The Systems-on-Chip (SoC) is also expected to feature a Mali-G71 GPU as well as an integrated LTE radio band. The mid-range Exynos 7885 chip is expected to be used on the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) which, in line with Samsung's tradition, will be released towards the end of this year.
On the other hand, the Exynos 9610 SoC is tipped to be a higher-end chipset which would also be manufactured based on Samsung's 10nm FinFET process. The processor utilises a 64-bit Octa-core CPU and is rumoured to feature a more powerful configuration which includes four ARM Cortex-A73 cores with a clock frequency of 2.4GHz and four power-efficient ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores. The Exynos 9610 is also rumoured to pack a Mali-G71 GPU and come with fully integrated LTE modem. No word yet on when the Exynos 9610 will be announced but it is also expected before the end of this year.
While mid-range chips are in the process of being built on 10nm manufacturing process, Samsung is reported to have started working on perfecting the 7nm process for chipset laminated on a smaller wafer. This would no doubt be for flagship models and should perform far better than the equally powerful 10nm chips.The 7nm process may likely be used for Apple's A12 processor but won't be used for the Snapdragon 845 chip as Qualcomm is said to have pitched its tent with TSMC on the manufacture of the 7nm Snapdragon 845 chipset.
