Amazon on Tuesday launched a new Fire TV Stick Basic Edition globally. The new version of TV Stick is priced at $50 and is available to buy in more than 100 countries.
The launch comes almost a year after the launch of Amazon Prime Video, Amazon’s Internet video on demand service. Until now, Amazon Prime Video was accessible only through a smart phone app, Prime Video website or Smart TVs using the original Fire TV Stick. But now with the launch of Fire TV Stick Basic Edition, you can watch Prime Video on any TV. All you need is a spare HDMI slot in the back of your TV and the new Fire TV Stick Basic Edition.
"Last year, we made Amazon Prime Video available to customers globally, and today, we're building on that momentum as we introduce Fire TV Stick Basic Edition to new customers around the world. This makes streaming content from apps like Prime Video fast and easy and we can't wait to hear what customers think," said Marc Whitten, Vice President, Amazon Fire TV.
Similar to the original Fire TV Stick, the Basic Edition also has a quad-core processor. The device has a RAM of 1GB alongside 8GB internal storage. The device also has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and supports High-Efficiency Video Codec (HEVC) with up to 1080p (full-HD) streaming capability at up to 60 fps frame rate along with Dolby Audio. However, it lacks the Alexa voice assistant that responds to your answers through a microphone-embedded remote controller on the standard Fire TV Stick version. It comes with a basic Bluetooth remote that has a five-way directional key and buttons to play/pause, fast forward, back and select the on-screen content. The basic edition is identical to the original in terms of dimensions and weight.
Amazon hasn’t put-up any list of the markets where the new Fire TV Stick Basic Edition is available to buy. You’ve to manually check whether it’s available in your country or not through the Amazon site. The device currently supports Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Italian, Germany, and English languages.
Though the basic edition costs $10 more than the original version, it is somehow negated by the fact that Amazon will ship the device FREE of cost to any of the included markets. So, if you’re interested to buy one, head on to the "Buy Now" link given below.
