TAG Heuer, a luxury Swiss watchmaker, has just launched a smartwatch that might just cost more than what some of us might spend on a whole house! At the SIHH show in Geneva, the company showcased its new ultra blinged, gem-encrusted TAG Heuer Connected Full Diamonds smartwatch priced at an approx $197,000.
What makes this smartwatch special? Good question, reportedly it is made from 18k polished white gold and 23.35 cts. of baguette-cut diamonds. The casing is the same 45mm size as the Tag Connected Modular 45.
Under the hood, it is similar to the Connected Modular 41 model but comes with double memory and storage. Full specifications are 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, the display is 390x390 AMOLED touchscreen with a 326 PPI. Powered by an Intel processor and supporting the usual set of sensors: GPS, NFC, accelerometer, gyroscope, tilt detection sensor, microphone, vibrations haptics engine. The watch runs Android Wear and will be upgraded to Android Orio soon. Like the Gear Sport, this little "beauty" has a water resistance of up to 50 meters.
The timepiece maker also showed off the Connected Modular 41 smartwatch, which can be had for as much as $6,750 for the diamond-bezel version, which must seem like pocket change compared to the Full diamonds connected model.
Before this announcement, the previous king to the worlds most expensive smartwatch was the $17,000 gold Apple Watch, which is no longer in production. TAG Heuer’s Connected models have an Interesting trade in deal for those not wanting to keep hold of technology when it is past its "sell-by date." After the tech powering it has become obsolete you can trade it for an analogue watch, of the same brand (obviously), and get a heavy discount. There is no news as to how much of a discount you get, but it sure would be Interesting to know?
