Samsung Galaxy Watch gets FCC certification - Supports LTE service from Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint

Jul 19, 2018

Yesterday, we Informed you that the Samsung Galaxy Watch would in fact run Tizen 4.0, opposed to Google's Wear OS. This news received mixed reactions from the Pro Tizen and Wear OS camps. Tizen is a solid OS that is stable, great battery life (for most users), delivers on key features, and supports a clean user Interface. Google's Wear OS has many more Apps than what are currently available on the Galaxy App Store but can have a confusing user Interface and mediocre battery life.

Today, there is news that the moniker of the smartwatch is definitely Galaxy Watch after it has been spotted at the FCC. The FCC documentation clearly shows the watches name as "Samsung Galaxy Watch." Two model numbers are mentioned, SM-R815U and SM-R815W and both are headed to the U.S. and Canada, respectively.

What else can be gleaned from the FCC documentation? Well, there is confirmation about the supported LTE bands and they correspond to all four major wireless providers in the U.S. Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. The display size seems to be approximately 1.2-inches (like the Gear S2), but I'm still hoping it turns out to be 1.3-inches (like the Gear S3). That small increase in screen diameter really helps with the device being more finger friendly and also the overall look. The case measures 51.2mm x 43.4mm.
