Samsung Electronics has launched a new Solid State Drive (SSD) lineup - the Samsung 860 QVO SSD. The new SSDs are built on the company's high-density 4-bit multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash architecture and feature up to 4TB of storage capacity. They are aimed at those PC users who have large storage needs but can't or don’t want to pay the huge costs. As Samsung says, the 860 QVO SSD makes "terabyte capacities more accessible to the masses" as they come with affordable price tags.

Samsung launches 860 QVO SSD

The newly launched Samsung 860 QVO is a SATA-based SSD that comes with 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB storage options. It has a 2.5-inch form factor, thus easily fitting in most standard laptops and desktops. Also with the 860 QVO, you don't need to use a combination of an SSD and an HDD for booting and storage. It offers both high capacity and performance in a single and affordable drive.

“Today’s consumers are using, producing and storing more high-resolution files than ever, including 4K videos and graphics-intensive games, escalating demand for greater capacities and performance in storage devices,” said Dr. Mike Mang, vice president of Brand Product Marketing, Memory Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung continues to lead the move toward multi-terabyte SSDs with the introduction of the Samsung 860 QVO, delivering fast performance, reliability and value to more consumers around the world.”

The 860 QVO has the latest 4-bit V-NAND and MJX controller that can push read speeds up to 550 MBps and write speeds of up to 520 MBps. While that's the same level of performance as the 3-bit MLC SSD, it's still not quite as fast as the 860 Pro series. But then, it costs a lot less as well. The 860 QVO SSD prices start at $149.99 for the 1TB model. On the other hand, the 1TB 860 Pro costs $300.

The drive comes integrated with Intelligent TurboWrite technology and will be available globally from December 16, 2018. The 1,440 terabytes written (TBW) rated drive (720 TBW for 2TB and 360 TBW for 1TB) also carries a three-year limited warranty.
